RUYA MAPS would like to hear from established and emerging artists who are based in, or are from, Athens, Greece. Our new series ‘Creative Cities’ looks at growing art scenes around the world, and will be launched with an exploration of Athens. Programmed around the curatorial theme Spirit, we will review the recent interest in Athens as a centre for contemporary art, exploring its life energy and vigour as the city recovers from the financial crisis.

Artists have played a large role in adapting to these conditions. We plan to award paid micro-commissions to Athenian artists who will use them to create work in response to the city and the theme Spirit.

To Apply:

We invite early career artists of all mediums, including current and recent students, to submit their portfolio, bio, and a brief statement on their relationship with the city.

Please send these to ruby@ruyamaps.org, and include your contact details and any social media/website links.

Applicants will be assessed on the quality of their portfolio and their insights into the city. Finalists will be awarded commissions to create work, and will also be expected to be available for an interview about their practice. The resulting series will be shared on RUYA MAPS’ online platform, and we will retain the right to use the images for marketing purposes.
